Epidural Steroid Injections
Epidural Steroid Injections are safe to use on a variety of back, neck, and nerve pain conditions. Most patients find that the injection provides much-needed relief during acute pain episodes. For some patients, an epidural steroid injection alone reduces back or neck discomfort enough to return to normal activities. For others, epidural steroid injections are used in combination with rehabilitation, such as physical therapy. Pain relief from an epidural steroid injection is usually significant and greatly improves qualify of life.
Medial Branch Blocks / Facet Injections
Medial branch blocks and facet injections are common treatment options for patients who experience back pain, neck pain and headaches. These minimally invasive injections are administered around the facet joints to reduce inflammation and irritation caused by arthritis. The facet joints are located on the side of the spine and connect each vertebra to the next. These joints help support the spine by providing stability and range of motion. They can become inflamed due to arthritis of the spine, a back injury, or chronic mechanical stress to the back or neck.
Radiofrequency Ablation
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure which aims to reduce low-back pain, neck pain, and knee pain related to the degeneration of joints from arthritis. It works by introducing an electrical current produced by a radio wave to an area of nerve tissue. This is heat therapy to the facet joint. The heat prevents nerve endings from sending pain signals to each other. This process greatly decreases pain in the back, neck or knee for an average period of 9 months to 2 years.
Kyphoplasty
Kyphoplasty is an outpatient procedure for patients who have spinal compression fractures – from either cancer-damaged vertebrae or certain spinal fractures – and have not responded to conservative treatments for their back pain. Kphoplasty is a spinal procedure in which bone cement is injected directly into fractured, collapsed, cracked, or compressed vertebra with the goal of alleviating pain.
Joint Injections
Joint injections are common treatments used to reduce stiffness and pain in joints caused by inflammation and arthritis. There is a variety of joint injections available with varying goals. Joint injections are an option to treat pain, reduce inflammation, and diagnose conditions. This helps to restore movement and reduce pain to knees, shoulders, hips, ankles, and other joints in the body.
Viscosupplementation
Viscosupplementation is a medical procedure for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee in patients whose pain has failed to respond to conservative approaches. These injections provide relief from chronic pain caused by an injury or osteoarthritis of a knee joint.
Sympathetic Blocks
Sympathetic blocks are treatments available to patients who are suffering from Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Sympathetic nerves are nerves that begin in the spinal cord and spread throughout the body. These nerves work with the autonomic nervous system in the body to transmit signals to the brain related to such feelings as touch, pain, temperature, and pressure. Sympathetic nerve blocks halt these signals and break the pain cycle, allowing the body to heal and recover.
Medial Branch Blocks/Facet Injections for Headaches
In younger people, chronic migraines frequently occur secondary to inflammation in the cervical spine. If conventional migraine treatments are not working, an upper cervical facet injection can help diagnose and treat the source of the headaches. If a facet injection breaks the pain cycle, the cause of the migraine is likely cervicogenic. A correct diagnosis will lead to a successful treatment plan, resulting in resolution of headaches and improved quality of life.
